The Lions opened the regular season with a 3-1 win over Universe FC, in their first outing in HFA Division 3A.
After a slow start from both sides, Mya Thui opened the scoring just before the half hour mark with a strike from 25 yards, with Michael Hmun adding a second just before half time. Goalkeeper Hla Aye kept a clean sheet on his debut, before coming off at half time.
Mluli Mmunga put the game beyond Universe's reach just after half time, his early goal-of-the-season contender very nearly breaking the net from 20 yards.
Some wasted opportunities in front of goal in the second half left a scoreline that flattered Universe slightly in the end, although Amaanah were by no means completely comfortable.
On the one hour mark, Universe pulled a goal back, and it was only an extraordinary one-on-one save from Wajahat Mohiuddun that prevented a close finish.
Another long range strike from Mya Thui rattled the post in the final moment of the game, before the final whistle arrived to the relief of both teams.
The Lions will be back in action at 2.00pm next Sunday at Bear Creek Park. You can donate to the team whenever you want to, or just come out to watch; we'll be grateful for your support.
