The Amaanah Lions avenged the only defeat of their first two seasons on Sunday, to expand their lead at the top of HFA Division 3A.
Revelation FC, a strong and disciplined team with a great deal of experience, had handed the Lions their first loss just two months ago, in the last game before the mid-season interval.
The Lions conceded first early in the first half, going 0-1 down to a spectacular thirty yard strike. The long Christmas break showed on both teams during a messy first half, with both teams struggling to take control of midfield. Most of Revelation’s threat came from strong shooting outside the box, but goalkeeper Hla Aye was equal to the danger.
The Lions came out a different team in the second half, taking full advantage of the pitch and conditions. Attacking a far better playing surface, with the wind behind them, Michael Hmun opened the scoring just moments after half time. A long period of dominance followed with Amaanah pitching a virtual shut out for the next forty-five minutes. Yoshan Bhujel coolly converted a penalty to take the lead, and by the time Mluli Mmunga added a third – a blistering strike from outside the box – the game was effectively over.
It was a welcome return to winning ways from the Lions, who had had a long two months to dwell on the unfamiliar feeling of their first defeat.
Now five points clear at the top with seven games remaining, the Lions are firmly in control of the title race.
