Lions improve goal yield in comfortable win

The Amaanah Lions consolidated their place at the top of Division 3A with a 3-0 win over Centro FC.

Centro had proved tough opposition during the first half of the season, becoming one of only three teams to hold the Lions to a draw over the course of two seasons. But on Sunday, the Lions proved too much for the visitors, producing a relentless second half performance that saw Centro almost exclusively pinned back to their own box.

Evan Ngonda scored the first half's only goal after a frustrating period for the Lions, who promised much in possession, but couldn't find the final ball to make it count. Cutting inside and creating space to shoot from well outside the box, the Lions midfielder was helped by a very poor piece of goalkeeping.

The goal seemed to settle the team, and there followed a sustained period of possession and dominance in midfield either side of the half time whistle.

By the time Ashis Rai joined the score sheet in the middle of the second half, the Lions had been knocking on the door for twenty straight minutes. His clever flick, beating the goalkeeper from close range.

The Lions' third goal arrived shortly before the final whistle. Driving down the right hand side, Ziyad Mohiuddin's perfect cross deserved more from Amaanah's strikers, beating everyone for pace and positioning, but as the ball finally fell to Evan in yards of clear space, his looping shot from well outside the box left defense and goalkeeper stranded.

The three goal win follows a series of low scoring games for Amaanah who will hope to see more goals again next week as the season heads into its last few games.
